LAS VEGAS, NV - This year at the Digital Signage Experience Show, Las Vegas local small business, DetaiLED® Solutions, entered the running with LED giants in the industry, taking home the award for Best Entertainment and Recreational Venue. DetaiLED® submitted their entry for Carnival Cruise Lines Mardi Gras featuring their moving screen atrium theatre.
The Mardi Gras cruise ship by Carnival Cruise Lines is a name synonymous with “fun” and “innovating.” The cruise is known as a family-friendly ship, open to a wider range of audiences, in a more relaxed and less fancy atmosphere.

The DetaiLED® team worked with Nautilus Design Entertainment and collaborated with the objective of transforming the ship’s large atrium space into a multifunctional venue, while still maintaining the breathtaking views from the atrium windows. With this request in mind, DetaiLED® engineers developed a brilliant system of moving screens that would easily be stored in the atrium stage when not in use.
During the day, the sunlight and beautiful ocean views can be seen through the atrium’s floor-to-ceiling windows. However, during special events and shows, the screens can be brought up to completely cover the window walls and display stunning backdrops and fun themes. The screens are able to work independently or synchronize with each other to provide a myriad of options for entertainment.
During the development of the project, DetaiLED® was able to design a large scale whole display that was made up of various moving parts. The design included 16 rectangular panels that would rotate and either ascend or descend (depending on position) into the ceiling/stage platform. The panels were positioned four across and four down. The top half rotates and ascends into the ceiling while the bottom half does the same, descending into the stage. These panels were positioned between 5 non-moving LED columns that maintained the layout of the structure.
The automation of storage allowed Carnival Mardi Gras to keep its atrium windows open while not in use, but also gave the space an opportunity to be multi-functional. The LED display also frees storage space for the cruise ship, reducing the amount of materials needed for entertainment purposes such as games, shows, and theatrics.
The DetaiLED® installation team was also on-site with all supplies, ready to position and program the LED project according to design. Due to the large success of this project, DetaiLED® has been commissioned to do similar projects for other sites.
In addition to winning the award for Best Entertainment Venue, DetaiLED® also received nominations for Best Educational Environments and Best Corporate environments, placing as finalists in the DSE show.
